From Garage Workshop to Family Legacy (1913–1938)
Our story began in 1913 when Gerrit Buis founded Holland Bedding and Upholstery Co. in a modest garage on East Fourteenth Street in Holland, Michigan. What started as a small local upholstery and bedding business quickly grew through Gerrit’s dedication to quality materials and honest workmanship.
In 1930, the business moved into the “Brownstone Alley” building on East 8th Street—an important milestone that anchored our family deeper into the Holland community. Gerrit’s son, Bill G. Buis, learned the trade from a young age, helping loop buttons and absorb the details of traditional mattress making. In 1938, father and son formalized their partnership as G. Buis & Son, continuing the focus on superior craftsmanship and personalized service.
Building Roots on Chicago Drive (1954–Present)
In 1954, the family constructed our current facility at 741 Chicago Drive. At the time, the location was considered “way out of town.” Today it sits at the heart of our ongoing commitment to manufacturing custom mattresses right here in West Michigan.
Four generations later, Spine Align continues that same tradition. Every mattress is still made to order in our Holland micro-factory. We use carefully selected materials, precise handcrafting techniques, and a transparent process that lets customers see, touch, and understand exactly what goes into their bed.
